Riverside Poly High School stands with members of our staff, student body and community in the fight against racism. We are all outraged over the recent events in Minnesota, Georgia, and the racial injustice that continues to plague our country.  As a school, we are committed to ensure that all students receive the highest quality education and all students are treated fairly and equitably.

In alignment with the words expressed from our Superintendent, Dr. David Hansen and the RUSD Board of Education, Riverside Poly High School is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion. We believe equity is accomplished when access is based on need, and every student is provided with what they individually require to learn and succeed to fulfill their academic and social advancement. We stand firm on ensuring equitable and inclusive policies and practices. We are committed to holding each other responsible for respectful conduct and treatment of one another.

We have begun our own journey to support our students as we make preparations for the 2020-21 school year. As a school we are starting the following actions:

  • The site administration team completed the first year of Cultural Proficiency Training & will continue into the upcoming school year, focusing on student group graduation rates and raising student achievement.
  • We have started a Multicultural Council (MCC) with student voices from different ethnic student groups. This group will assist the administration in leading change.
  • We are currently analyzing our site rules and regulations to ensure equity for all and dismantle inequitable policies.
  • The school administration is participating in a book study this summer on White Fragility by Robin DiAngelo.
  • All Poly HS employees will participate in a book study on Shattered Inequities by Robin Avelar La Salle.
  • We are building an Equity Team composed of staff and students to collectively undertake our equity challenges.

Our families deserve to raise their children in a community and world that is free of racism, discrimination and violence. We will be an even stronger community by working together, with purpose, empathy and respect united in our vision for our students.

We are in this together, as we all live in Bear Country!
