Graduation 2020

Hello. My name is Grace Shelby Roemer and I am one of the Salutatorians for the Class of 2020. I am honored to address you all now  (even if it’s a recording rather than a live speech).

I believe I speak for every graduating senior from the Class of 2020 when I say we are sincerely moved and grateful for the outpour of love we have received from the community during the past 2 months. From the lawn signs to social media tributes to the drive-thru style cap and gown delivery, thank you for making us feel special and accomplished. It is this sense of community that Riverside Poly High School has mastered well - as a student I always felt like an important piece of Riverside, however small.

133 years of Poly history line the halls we walked through every day, and now we join the thousands of this school’s graduates who achieved greatness - scientists, Olympians, teachers, mayors, entrepreneurs, and philanthropists (to name a few). I can think of no greater place, nestled in between Central and Victoria Ave, to proudly call home.

Places are made to feel at home not by the buildings and technology inside it, but by the people and relationships they house. Poly High School is no exception. Thank you to the teachers and administrators who tirelessly enriched and challenged us day after day. Thank you to the counselors who helped us, and pushed us when necessary, to the finish line, while allowing us to dream big for our unknown future. Thank you to the supervisors who never gave up in keeping us safe and making sure we were on the right path. And to the maintenance staff - thank you for making our campus beautiful, for never ceasing in making our home a place to be proud of. Thank you even to the seagulls - an integral part of making Poly High School home. As one of our frequent visitors, they made us walk faster and their little surprises provided memories not to be forgotten.

We will remember our friendships and memories more than our grades, successes, and struggles. Relationships are and will be, the foundation for our future happiness and success. As a fellow Poly Bear, let us never forget the lessons we learned, and the experiences we shared, at this great school. Go Bears!

Congratulations to Poly High School's Class of 2020 Valedictorians, Salutatorians, and Top Ten.
