Poly High School will be hosting its first College/Career Kick-Off on Wednesday, October 3, 2018! The purpose of College/Career Kick Off is to encourage all of our seniors to kick off the college and financial aid application season. Throughout Riverside County seniors will be working on completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or the California Dream Act and college applications or military preparation. Some Riverside County schools have reported 60% + of their senior class completing their financial aid application on this single day!

What will this event look like?

Seniors will report to the gym for 1st period. There will be a short welcome and then students will be given their workshop sessions for the day. When dismissed, half of the seniors will attend their workshops based on their post-secondary goal and the other half will remain in the gym. There will be University rooms, Community College rooms, and Financial Aid rooms. The remaining seniors will listen to a motivational speaker and ask questions to a career panel in the gym. Once the first session is done, the two senior groups will swap. There will be a final session right before lunch in the gym to recap on the day, have announcements, and prize drawings. The event time is from 8:00am – 12:30pm.

What should I expect?

Your son/daughter may come to you asking you for their social security number, income tax documents, tax filing status, amongst other things if they are planning on participating in the financial aid workshop. If you feel uncomfortable giving this information to your child, we invite you to attend our Cash for College Night on October 10th in the Library in the evening. During this time you will receive assistance from Poly Counselors and Financial Aid representatives in filling out the application alongside your child. Please note that one of our goals at Poly is to have 100% of our senior class complete the FAFSA or Dream Act application. So these College/Career Workshops and Cash for College Night are great opportunities to receive assistance.

We look forward to a successful and productive day!
